De ziekenhuisfysiotherapeut
De fysiotherapeut is gespecialiseerd in de zorg voor patiënten met acute, meervoudige en snel wisselende problemen zoals die bij patiënten in het ziekenhuis veelal voorkomen. De fysiotherapeut richt zich met name op het (adem)bewegingsapparaat. De therapeut maakt deel uit van een multidisciplinair team en heeft daarin een rol in het onderzoek en de behandeling van de patient. Het betreft meestal patiënten voor en na een operatie, bv nieuwe heup of knie maar ook operaties aan bloedvaten en/of organen.
Daarnaast heeft de fysiotherapeut een belangrijke rol in de identificatie van kwetsbare ouderen die opgenomen zijn in het ziekenhuis. Door de ziekenhuisopname lopen zij nog meer gevaar om te deconditioneren, d.w.z. verlies van spierkracht en conditie waardoor zij niet meer voor zichzelf kunnen zorgen. De therapeut zorgt samen met de andere leden van het behandelteam dat dit zo min mogelijk gebeurt.
