Ocean Grounds was born from a desire to create a business inspired by coffee's connection to the natural world and the free spirit of California, where OG's founder Jim Lee is from.
It is important to Jim that OG is socially responsible and connects the coffee growers to our customers. Our goal is to provide our customers with an unsurpassed coffee experience focused on handmade coffees and artisan roasting.
Single Origin Coffee
We source our beans from a handful of growers with whom we built intimate and Fair Trade relationships.
Our coffee beans change with the seasons to ensure the best and freshest coffee.
Roasted to perfection
The highest quality green coffee beans are shipped to our Roastery in China, where we roast them to their greatest potential and brew them expertly for our customers in China. You can enjoy our coffees at the Ocean Grounds coffeeshops or buy the beans and more to enjoy at home.
Our story
… it all began in San Diego, California…
San Diego is the hometown of Jim Lee, the man behind Ocean Grounds. After growing up in California, Jim followed his Chinese family roots and worked in China for 3 years.
When Jim returned to San Diego in 2008, he discovered a local roasting and retail coffeehouse called Java Jones. Being passionate about coffee, Jim invested in Java Jones and honed his skills and knowledge about specialty coffee.
In 2009, he took it a step further. He created Ocean Grounds and in 2011 brought his specialty coffee concept to China, where he had experienced a big gap for serious coffee lovers. Jim saw a great opportunity for specialty coffee in China and the artisan approach in roasting as well as for handcrafted coffees.
Ocean Grounds is pioneering a holistic coffee experience in Asia by sourcing organic specialty green coffee beans and by cultivating awareness and appreciation of artisan roasting and brewing in China.
