Die Ökologische Marktwirtschaft ist das idealtypische Modell einer marktwirtschaftlich orientierten sowie sozial und ökologisch verpflichteten Wirtschaftsordnung. Sie stellt kein Gegenmodell zur Sozialen Marktwirtschaft dar. Die Ökologische Marktwirtschaft ist vielmehr eine Weiterentwicklung der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft und ergänzt diese um die Dimension Umwelt.
Die Ökologische Marktwirtschaft ist aktueller denn je, denn die Herausforderungen im Umwelt- und Klimaschutz sind enorm. Neben der Reduzierung von CO2-Emissionen und anderen Treibhausgasen müssen wir dringend etwas gegen das Artensterben tun, das inzwischen ein ebenso großes Problem darstellt wie der Klimawandel. Plastikmüll in den Meeren und immer mehr Mikroplastik in allen Lebensbereichen erfordern schnelles Handeln. Auch unsere wachsende Abhängigkeit von kritischen Rohstoffen zeigt, wie notwendig innovative Recycling- und Kreislaufwirtschaftslösungen sind.
In Deutschland fließt viel Geld in den Umweltschutz. Dies hat aber oft nur eine geringe Wirkung, weil bürokratische, sektorbezogene Ansätze und planwirtschaftliche Einzelinterventionen dominieren. Kurz: Wir brauchen mehr Marktwirtschaft im Umweltschutz.
Unser Verein Ökologische Marktwirtschaft hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, marktwirtschaftliche Konzepte zu fördern, die sowohl ökologisch wirksam als auch ökonomisch effizient sind.
