In de familiebakkerij van Margriet in Gorinchem wordt al sinds jaar en dag echte, verse appeltaart gebakken. Met appels uit de nabijgelegen Betuwe die nog gewoon bij oma Lenie in keuken met de hand geschild worden. De klanten genoten zichtbaar van de ambachtelijkheid van de lekkernij. “En toen dacht ik: dat moeten we niet alleen voor onszelf houden”, zegt Margriet “En zo ontstond eigenlijk Oma’s Brievenbustaarten. Ik ontdekte een manier om de taarten zo te bakken en te verpakken dat ze in heel Nederland door de brievenbus passen, gewoon via de post.” In het voorjaar van 2020 sloeg dat concept zo aan, dat oma’s schilmesje al gauw overuren draaide. Er gaan soms tot wel duizenden taarten per week de (oven)deur uit. “Prachtig toch, het hele land kan zo meegenieten”, zegt Margriet. En Oma Lenie? Die snapt het allemaal wel: “Niemand weerstaat toch een vers stukje taart, met appels uit eigen tuin?”
Maar alle liefde die ze in haar taarten steekt, wil ze niet alleen voor haar eigen familie houden. Daarom heeft ze wat slims bedacht. Oma’s Brievenbustaarten zijn speciaal gebakken en verpakt, zodat ze op je deurmat ploffen net alsof ze zó uit grootmoeders oven komen! En dus geniet het hele land van groot tot klein, van Oma Lenie’s smulfestijn.
