We promote positive use of recreational activities to improve self-esteem, well-being & confidence in those that are socially isolated for a range of different reasons (for example for health, finance, age, gender, etc). Registered Charity Number: 1187913
Peak Empower opened in July 2019 and was founded by two parent carers; Lucy Somers and Sapphire Tuckfield. Both have children with conditions that can cause social isolation.
We have two missions: 1. To help those who have found themselves out of work due to redundacy, or furloughed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 2. to promote the positive use of adventure sports to improve well-being in marginalised groups by providing clubs and courses. Both of our aims are to help empower and to help individuals gain confidence in themselves.
Our aims are to:
Improve well-being, confidence and self-esteem through recreational activities
Increase number and availability of inclusive clubs
Decrease social isolation
Provide lectures and training
Reduce negative perceptions of disability, mental health and disengaged youth
Improve skills that can be used in life (from communication and social interation to writing a c.v. and new employable skills).
We use a range of different approaches from watersports, pottery, climbing, cooking, cycling, yoga and wellbeing.
Our big project: We are working to create an inclusive cycling hub based at Nene active where we are providing hand cycles and trikes that people of all abilities will be able to hire and take advantage of the Northampton trails just outside the Town Cente.
