Peel & Spice is an all-natural sparkling drink to be consumed in place of alcohol in pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants across the country. It is based on recent research demonstrating the UK’s desire to go sugar and alcohol-free - whether this be for cost, health/ medical or religious reasons. Desire for healthier lifestyles has dominated the food industry in recent years, and with the impending sugar tax and studies linking sugar consumption (such as those in sodas and juices) with mental health, diabetes, cancer and obesity, consumers are shunning sugar and alcohol in favour of premium soft drinks.
Strong evidence shows increasing moderation in alcohol consumption, with 30% of consumers choosing premium soft drinks instead of alcohol and 21% not drinking alcohol at all. Soft drinks are the preferred choice for most occasions when people are limiting or reducing alcohol intake, with taste being the biggest barrier to higher penetration. Peel & Spice caterers to this audience. Using a unique combination of herbs, peels and spices, our drinks accommodate discerning and experimental palates. We aim to remove the sitgma associated with choosing alcohol-free drinks by providing an exciting and refreshing flavour experience. We have developed 3 main flavour profiles; Pink Peppercorn, Mint & Grapefruit, Lemongrass, Black pepper and Lemon, and Ginger, Cinnamon and Lime.
We believe the on-trade needs to become more responsive to consumers demands for healthy (yet delicious) soft drinks. This could be done by creating bespoke non-alcoholic menus, increasing choice in this category and educating bar-staff on the complexities and flavour profiles of soft drinks, in the same way that new wines, beers and cocktails are introduced.
