Las Sociedades de Electrónica de Potencia del IEEE (PELS, Power Electronics Society) y de Electrónica Industrial (PELS, Industrial Electronics Society) son organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro, organizadas en regiones que abarcan todo el mundo, y dentro de cada una de las regiones los países se organizan en Capítulos.
A partir del 1 de junio de 2004, el Capítulo español del PELS se unió al Capítulo de la sociedad de Electrónica Industrial (IES) para formar un Capítulo conjunto (Joint Chapter).
España es un país con buena tradición científica en temas afines a estas sociedades, como así lo demuestran el gran número de grupos de trabajo cuya investigación está enfocada a estas disciplinas. El Capítulo Español del IEEE PELS–IES surge con el objetivo de conectar y poner en común todas estas personas y sus actividades de nuestro entorno.
Los miembros de este capítulo se reúnen anualmente en el Seminario Anual de Automática, Electrónica Industrial e Instrumentación (SAAEI), donde publican sus contribuciones científicas.
