Pharma Deutschland ist der mitgliederstärkste Branchenverband der Pharmaindustrie in Deutschland. Er vertritt die Interessen von rund 400 Mitgliedsunternehmen, die in Deutschland ca. 80.000 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter beschäftigen. Die politische Interessenvertretung und die Betreuung der Mitglieder erstrecken sich auf das Gebiet der verschreibungspflichtigen #Rx und nicht verschreibungspflichtigen #OTC (Human-)Arzneimittel sowie auf Medizinprodukte, wie z. B. Medical Apps und digitale Gesundheitsanwendungen #DiGA.
Die bei Pharma Deutschland organisierten Unternehmen tragen maßgeblich dazu bei, die #Arzneimittelversorgung in Deutschland zu sichern. So stellen sie fast 80 Prozent der in #Apotheke|n verkauften rezeptfreien und fast zwei Drittel der rezeptpflichtigen Arzneimittel sowie einen Großteil der stofflichen Medizinprodukte für die Patientinnen und #Patient|en bereit.
Der Großteil der Mitgliedsunternehmen ist mittelständisch geprägt. Besondere regionale Cluster sind vor allem in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Hessen, Baden-Württemberg und Bayern vorhanden. Aber auch abseits der Ballungsgebiete sind Mitgliedsunternehmen – teils seit mehreren Generationen – fest verankert.
