Over the last decade, Regina has seen remarkable growth in the number of Huffaz, escalating from nearly none to over 30. This surge started in 2011 with Sheikh Nabil establishing a Quran school at the East Musala (Al Noor Masjid). By 2015, when he moved to Toronto, he had successfully guided at least 10 students in becoming Huffaz, with many others memorizing substantial parts of the Quran. The Islamic Association of Saskatchewan, Regina (IAOS), then took over, continuing this legacy and consistently adding to the Huffaz count each year, despite numerous challenges, particularly in teaching staff continuity. A major ongoing concern has been ensuring that Huffaz not only remember but also deeply engage with their memorized sections of the Quran. This depth is crucial for their development as community leaders and teachers. To strengthen this aspect, the Regina Huffaz Network was initiated. It aims to nurture a profound connection with the Quran among Huffaz, emphasizing the significant responsibilities this entails and fostering their leadership skills. The network specifically addresses the gaps left by frequent changes in leadership and teaching methods by offering targeted programs. Two key offerings include the Hifz Class, tailored for students dedicated to memorizing the Quran. This class incorporates elements from both traditional part-time and full-time memorization programs, allowing students to continue their academic pursuits. Additionally, there is a Hifz Revision Class focused on helping existing Huffaz maintain their Quranic memorization through regular review sessions, ensuring the durability of their efforts. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to create a sustainable system that supports Quran mastery and develops leadership within the Huffaz community.
