Het radiostation waar veel radiotalent werd geboren: Erik de Zwart (Veronica), Ruud Hendriks (Veronica), Ton Lathouwers (die bij Unique de roots vond voor zijn SKYRADIO), Jos van Heerden (Radio 10 Gold), Ron Bisschop (Veronica) en Bart van Gogh (Top Format), e.v.a.
Het station had een duidelijk verhaal, een gezellige uitstraling en was het gat in de markt. Daarom sloeg het aan. Unique onderscheidde zich van andere piraten door de aanpak. Vanaf de eerste dag werd het "commerciële radio" genoemd en het manifesteerde zich professioneel. Eigenwijze radiomakers die het toenmalige radiolandschap veel te mager vonden trokken de handschoen aan. Met een format (om en om een oldie en een goede nieuwe plaat), én behoorlijk wat regels voor de DJ's. En heel snel werd 24 uur per dag uitgezonden, wat op zich al uniek was.
Waarom was Unique uniek?
Door de basis van muziekradio serieus te nemen: niet de presentator, maar de muziek staat bovenaan. Als de muziek onderbroken wordt door een stem is dat kort, sfeerverhogend, informatief. En dat is het anno 2012 nog steeds. Het radiolandschap is opnieuw eentonig, veel van hetzelfde, veel bla-bla, weinig passie voor muziek. Dat vinden luisteraars, dat vinden de radiomakers van Unique en de adverteerders en sponsors. De handen ineen voor een nieuwe radio-passie!
