De stichting Rail Cargo information Netherlands is als publiek-privaat initiatief opgericht op 30 juni 2003. Doel van de stichting is om het gebruik van het spoor voor goederenvervoer te bevorderen en het imago van railgoederenvervoer bij verladers en logistieke dienstverleners te verbeteren.
De doelstellingen worden concreet ingevuld door:
- informatie over goederenvervoer per spoor te ontsluiten en transparant te maken middels de website en de webapplicatie Rail Scout: www.railscout.nl;
- communicatie op gang te brengen tussen aanbieders en gebruikers middels onze helpdesk en de Rail Scout Wizard (in ontwikkeling);
- het communiceren van praktijkvoorbeelden (best practices) en de jaarlijkse publicatie van Spoor in Cijfers (statistisch boekwerk);
- behoeften bij verladers, expediteurs en logistiek dienstverleners te signaleren;
- mogelijkheden voor het goederenvervoer per spoor te stimuleren, met name gericht op de gebruikerskant;
- het organiseren van netwerk events, zoals het Spoorcafé (4x per jaar), Spoorexcursie Young Professionals (1x per jaar) en het Spoorcongres (1x per 1,5 jaar).
