The project is led by Indigenous communities who founded ACATISEMA, Matavén governance body. To achieve their vision, they sought the support of MEDIAMOS - a Colombian consulting firm with 25+ years of experience - forming a strategic alliance to launch the Project in 2013. As project proponents and developers, MEDIAMOS provided initial funding and technical expertise, while Indigenous leadership contributed ancestral knowledge, balancing modern sustainability practices with traditional stewardship.

Certified under the Verra Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community, and Biodiversity (CCB) standards (2013–2042), REDD+ Matavén delivers high-integrity carbon credits aligned with international environmental and social responsibility standards.
