But why Marine (blue) Biotech?
The emerging and very lucrative market for marine biological material for use in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, forage, food ingredients etc. holds many exploitation opportunities yet to be taken advantage of. Today only 5% of what is harvested on the planet is derived from the planet's oceans. Both scientists and industry recognize the great potential, but much of the existing research already there is not utilized. Rocket57 wants to change that. The market potential for Marine Biotech has been calculated by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the EU to hold a valuation of more than USD68.7 billion and an Annual Added Value of up to 10%.
The synergy effects of Marine Biotech make the industry a central influent on other types of Biotech industries, such as the market for industrial enzymes, additives, pharmaceuticals, functional foods (eg. vitamins in spring water), aqua cultivation of vegetables and plants, cosmetics and agricultural products. In addition, the use of Marine Biotech spreads rapidly to new industrial domains, including bioprocessing and restoration of ecosystems. Marine Biotech has the potential to solve many global challenges, including; climate, environmental and humanitarian (food).
