Since the start of the pandemic, we realised just how lucky we are to live in the wonderful town of Rush! Beautiful beaches, walks, a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming community and great facilities for raising a family.
We are also more aware of people who do not have this luxury of living in a peaceful environment that meets their basic needs. War in Syria and Afghanistan has led to entire communities, once peaceful and nurturing like our own, now forced to flee in fear of their lives. Many of these families remain in refugee camps, living in dire conditions.
A group of Rush residents has come together to play a life-changing role in one such family’s life. Through the Rush Refugee Sponsorship project, we hope to welcome one refugee family into our community and support them with their initial transition to a life of safety, security, and independence here in our beautiful area.
Supported by the Irish Refugee Council in conjunction with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, we are following the Community Sponsorship programme, to make a transformative difference in one refugee family’s life. Community sponsorship started in Canada in the 1970’s and has resettled well over 300,000 refugees worldwide!
