The Grocery Boy Who Invented Sam Leong® Singapore
Samuel Leong Sek Kin was born in Singapore in 1965. The son of school teachers, he started his journey as a grocery boy. He grew up to be an exceptional scholar and an ambitious young man. He graduated at the top of his class at university and got up early to work as a researcher—every single day. This beginning was relatively unspectacular.
After finishing his Master of Science degree, Sam entered a technology MNC. Once again, he succeeded brilliantly as a scientist. Upon completing his MBA, Sam worked in international marketing. He then started his own business and conducted research at Cambridge.
Then, something happened that would change the course of his life forever.
One day, a doctor visited Sam’s lab. The woman was seeking help in developing a refreshing anti-aging facial spray. Women then did not use anti-aging facial sprays, mainly because the product did not exist. Recognizing a promising business opportunity, Sam agreed to be the doctor’s technical advisor and began experimenting with anti-aging facial sprays. His first efforts were disappointing, but he was undeterred. Convinced that his scientific insight could revolutionize the beauty industry, he persisted. Sam continuously changed the formulas and even tried the sprays on his face. While it took him a long time, he finally had a product he felt happy about. When applied, the refreshing anti-aging facial spray felt like a whisper but revitalized the skin with the force of a symphony—a can’t-live-without for everyone. “At last, I was fortunate enough to create a product of superb quality, which I believe I deserved, enabling me to launch my beauty business successfully.” It was 2024, and Sam had been experimenting with anti-aging facial sprays for two years.
He designed his logo SL but felt it was too impersonal, so he soon trademarked the eponymous brand, Sam Leong®, a personable Singaporean name.
