Sceneverse was a small, plucky Canadian startup dedicated to the belief that scenes matter. We were in active operation from 2010 to 2014, and were formally dissolved in 2018. Whatever passion binds your scene together - art, punk, theatre, axe throwing, quilting, roller derby, jazz, food - Sceneverse aimed to help you celebrate it. We thought that existing online tools and services did not serve scenes well (not as well as the bulletin board at your local coffee shop that showcases all events and services relevant to members of scenes that frequent it!) Digital social networking platforms tend to scatter our attention. The special magic of scenes only happens when people with similar interests cross paths in networks of real-world interaction. We were building a platform and tools that helped the right paths converge. Some of our work is encapsulated in an research paper published by academic contributors to our project, entitled "Cultural scene detection using reverse Louvain optimization". We thank those partners, our former employees, and all the many others who helped us along the way. It was a wild ride and we learned a lot.
