The Central European House of Photography is the first and most important institution that began to pursue and develop an independent photographic culture in Slovakia after the fall of communism. Since 1992, the House has organized the Month of Photography festival, which brings more than 30 exhibitions annually during November to the exhibition spaces of Bratislava. It is of fundamental importance for Slovak as well as European photography. The main activities of the House include: - Month of Photography Festival, held annually during November - two photographic galleries in the House premises, Prepostska 4, focused on contemporary photography. - photographic museum collection of historical and contemporary works - workshops, lectures - photographic library - publishing art photo books, monographs, theoretical and historical texts including the History of European Photography, a 3000+ page, 6 volume magnum opus dealing with the photographic history of every single European nation - publishing The Photo Newspaper / Fotonoviny, 4 issues annually - Portfolio Review, bi-annual - The Best Photography Book Contest, bi-annual The House is a member of several international cultural bodies, notably the European Month of Photography, which is an association of 8 major photgraphic festivals held around Europe - Paris, Luxembourg, Berlin, Vienna, Athens, Budapest, and Bratislava.
