The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research is the largest institution of the Leibniz Association. It was founded in 1817 by citizens of Frankfurt and still considers itself a “citizens’ society” today, supported by over 7,000 members. For over 200 years, Senckenberg scientists have been researching the Earth-system – conducting “integrative geobiodiversity research.” This is based on the ambitious goal of understanding nature with its almost infinite diversity in order to preserve it as a basis of
life for future generations and to use it sustainably. In the fight against the global challenges, be it climate change, species extinction, or environmental pollution, we offer approaches to solutions in dialogue with society. The basis for this are our scientific collections as archives of nature.
Die Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung ist die größte Einrichtung der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft. Sie wurde 1817 von Frankfurter Bürgern begründet und versteht sich auch heute als „Bürger*innengesellschaft“, getragen von über 7.000 Mitgliedern. Seit mehr als 200 Jahren erforschen Senckenberg-Wissenschaftler*innen das System Erde – wir betreiben eine „integrative Geobiodiversitätsforschung“. Dahinter steht das ehrgeizige Ziel, die Natur mit ihrer schier unendlichen Vielfalt zu verstehen, um sie als Lebensgrundlage für künftige Generationen zu erhalten und nachhaltig zu nutzen. Im Kampf gegen die globalen Herausforderungen, sei es der Klimawandel, das Artensterben oder die Umweltverschmutzung, bieten wir im Dialog mit der Gesellschaft Lösungsansätze. Grundlage dafür sind die wissenschaftlichen Sammlungen als Archive der Natur.
