بنیاد حامیان دانشگاه تهران در تاریخ سی ام دی ماه هزار و سیصد و نود و سه با حضور اعضای هیئت موسس در راستای بهره گیری از توانمندی های مادی و معنوی خیّرین، تشویق و ترغیب توانگران و نیک اندیشان برای تقویت و گسترش زیر ساخت های دانشگاه تهران، با همت جمعی از خیّرین نیک اندیش و دانش آموختگان نیک خواه دانشگاه تهران به منظور حمایت از اهداف و مأموریت های ملی، منطقه ای و بین المللی دانشگاه به مثابه نماد آموزش عالی در دفتر رئیس دانشگاه راه اندازی شد. اولین جلسه هیئت مؤسس بنیاد حامیان دانشگاه تهران در خردادماه همان سال پس از برگزاری اولین جشنواره خیّرین و واقفین دانشگاه تهران، تشکیل شد. در همین سال امور مقدماتی و ثبت بنیاد آغاز شد. با توجه به اهمیت شروع فعالیت بنیاد در یک ساختمان مناسب، در اردیبهشت 1394 ساختمان کنونی بنیاد واقع در خیابان وصال شیرازی که یک ساختمان تاریخی است توسط دانشگاه تهران برای بهره برداری لازم به مدت 99 سال در اختیار بنیاد قرار داده شد و بنیاد فرهنگی مصلی نژاد درهمین سال با هزینه بالغ بر 2 میلیارد تومان مرمت، بازسازی و تجهیز ساختمان بنیاد را تقبل کرد و از آبان ماه 1395 دفتر بنیاد در این ساختمان مستقر شد.
