In its beginnings, Sirius was created to enable the pursuit of the major design project known as QMSat started by graduate students in 2017. It consisted of a CubeSat developed as part of the Canadian CubeSat Project by the Canadian Space Agency. The fabrication and testing have been completed as of November 28, 2023. After the satellite's completion, Sirius management team was made aware of another student aerospace project being pursued within the university walls. Wanting to create a single hub for Aerospace, Sirius and what was formerly known as project Casus merged under the Sirius banner, which is in the process of being rebranded as Sherbrooke’s Initiative for Research and Innovative Uses of Space. Sirius’ satellite and rocketry division have been formed. The satellite division is responsible for ground to satellite communication and ground operations. The rocketry division, comprised mostly of new members of the university’s incoming class, is now embracing its first challenge with Phoenix with some support from Project Casus former members, Sirius’ satellite division and Launch Canada mentors.
