The S+K Project is a theatre company striving to revolutionise the performing arts sector by bringing inclusivity, accessibility and social diversity to the forefront. The belief of storytelling as a method to evoke change runs through all that the company does, whilst ensuring that these stories are uncensored, entertaining and representative. Through producing theatre work in-house, curating festivals and showcases, leading workshops and running a thorough outreach programme, The S+K Project pushes to shape the future of the creative industry and make the arts for everyone. After being frustrated about the lack of diversity in the acting industry, the company was co-founded in September 2014 by two young, black students who decided to go down the path of telling their own stories to make their voices heard. After producing successful events together and an urge to create informative and entertaining work, the pair wrote, casted, directed and produced their own play and launched at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in Kentish Town in September 2014. Today, with Malakaï as Artistic Director — and a handful of other dynamic team members — The S+K Project is comprised of young people who share a passion for inclusivity within the arts. With the growing team being united in their backgrounds of inclusive theatre and participator work, S+K understands the fundamental importance of accessibility within the arts; they want their work to be relevant, engaging and accessible for all, regardless of race, class, gender, sexuality, age, ability or any other “limitation”. The S+K Project is Resident Company at Bernie Grant Arts Centre and are Associate Artists with Talawa Theatre Company.
