Das Sozialmedizinische Zentrum Oberwallis (SMZO) ist ein privatrechtlicher Verein mit öffentlichem Zweck und gehört zu 100% den Oberwalliser Gemeinden (ohne Salgesch). Das SMZO stellt im Oberwallis im Auftrga des Kantons das öffentliche Spitex-Angebot und die Umsetzung der Sozialhilfe sicher. Daneben bietet das SMZO verschiedene Dienstleistungen im Auftrag der Gemeinden und des Kantons an:
- öffentliche Spitex-Dienstleistungen (Pflege, Hauswirtschaft, Betreuung zu Hause, Mahlzeitendienst etc.)
- Kinderspitex
- Mütter- und Väterberatung
- Sozialdienst (öffentliche Sozialberatung der Gemeinden)
- Jobcoaching Topjoberwallis
- Sozialpädagogische Familienbegleitung und Familiencoaching
- Schulsozialarbeit
- Regionale Integrationsstelle (Umsetzung KIP)
Das SMZO ist ein Ausbildungsbetrieb und bietet Lehrstellen (FaGe, AsG) und Praktika (BM-W, Infomatik, Soziale Arbeit) an.
