Nagalingam with humble beginnings in the Lottery business, the group witnessed a rapid rise to global stage when Mr. S.N. Jayamurugan, son of Mr. S.Nagalingam took over the reins. SNJ Group has its roots into Chennai lottery business in 1969 when his father Mr. S.Nagalingam migrated to Chennai from the Southern District of Tirunelveli of Tamil Nadu and started retail vending of Lottery tickets in Chennai. In 1989 S. N. Jayamurugan started his own business in Chennai in a very small way and grew from strength to strength in the same business and set up a lottery conducting agency for the State Governments. With the Lottery business being phased out by most of the States he decided to move into other businesses and set up the Liquor making unit in 2009 and the brewery in 2011 and incidentally he has become No.2 player in the state in both the businesses at the shortest possible time. Before venturing into Liquor business, the group had forayed into Hospitality with a two and a three star hotel in Chennai, purchase and leasing of commercial and industrial buildings, Reality by development of plots for residential uses, FMCG – manufacture and sale of low priced detergent cakes, creation of very large parcels of land banks in the periphery of Chennai. All these businesses are profitable and the group has been in the process of unlocking value of land banks in and around Chennai. Today the SNJ Group has become a multi-stream, multi product, multi locational group with operations in Chennai, Andhra, Goa Tamil Nadu Kerala and Orissa. All these have been made feasible by the Vision of the promoter, the ability of the promoter to provide the necessary seed capital for the new business which is evidenced by their personal taxation returns, of about INR 160 Crores. for the last 5 years, the ability of the promoter to attract the best of talents from National and International companies both technical and otherwise, retain them and create a vibrant working atmosphere to harness the best out of their talents. Today the group has priced talents available in the Brewery and Liquor industry of India and is also slated to secure similar Managerial skills in the sugar division. Moreover the group, over the last 2 years has been able to create a Core Management team which works on the futuristic plans of respective divisions to ensure a headway ahead of the competition and this has been vindicated by quite a few first the Group has achieved by bringing in the latest technologies globally obtainable in the respective industry. The group has also purchased two other smaller liquor units in Goa and Kerala and both the units are now operating to their capacities.
