Soil Spectroscopy for Global Good (SS4GG) initiative is a collaborative network of hundreds of soil scientists and other stakeholders focused on using soil spectroscopy as a means to generate high-quality soil data at significantly reduced costs.
The SS4GG initiative was created in 2020 by Woodwell Climate Research Center (USA), University of Florida (USA), and the OpenGeoHub Foundation (the Netherlands) with support from many national and international institutions and researchers.
The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has funded the SS4GG initiative through 2023 to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and sharing in soil spectroscopy based on an open and collaborative network of researchers and stakeholders (100+). We are currently continuing the project with support from Woodwel Climate, OpengeoHub, and the US Depart of Energy.
Core tenets of the SS4GG initiative are open data and open science, making all sorts of information, data, predictive models, training materials, webinars, and scientific papers publicly available.
We developed the Open Soil Spectra Library (OSSL) and a suite of additional datasets, web services, software, and tutorials. You can learn more about our open resources at: https://docs.soilspectroscopy.org/
