The speziell® design studio was founded in 2002 by the three qualified designers Sybille Fleckenstein, Jens Pohlmann and Dr. Thilo Schwer. They conceptualise and design objects and product series in the area of consumer goods, adopting an integrative design approach that encompasses product planning, consulting on portfolio composition and product diversification. Material and functional innovations are developed in cooperation with the client. This includes the authentic presentation of the results of this work at trade fairs and in showrooms.
The work produced by speziell® has received numerous international awards – the team has won more than 40 design prizes to date. Design critic Prof. Markus Frenzl describes the quality of their work as follows:
"The three product designers of speziell are among that rare breed of designers for whom the aim is not to push forcibly their own ego on every design. Sybille Fleckenstein, Jens Pohlmann and Thilo Schwer approach each design task with an enquiring curiosity and as a team find what is special in the ordinary. This enables them to achieve technically convincing solutions that are strong in character but never appear artificial or exaggerated and combine exceptional functionality with emotional aspects at all times. These self-contained designs bear the handwriting of a team but nevertheless fit in perfectly with the task, company and brand at hand."
