In a nut shell, Jenn live streams a video on winter holiday in Tulum using the Spree app. Five of her friends tune-in and approve of the sunset and Jenn's new sunglasses. They each purchase a pair in-app with Apple Pay during the live stream. Jenn earns a commission for each sale. Sunglass Hut ships new sunglasses to her five friends. Wowza Media Systems™, the gold standard for streaming software and services, awarded the Spree application, created by Above Rocks, as the grand prize winner of the GoCoder SDK App Challenge 2016. The Spree app was selected for its use of live streaming to create a new class of applications. As the winner, Above Rocks will receive a cash payment of U.S. $5,000 along with a license to the Wowza GoCoder SDK. The winners were announced during the 2016 Streaming Media West conference. “This was an exciting year for the challenge, with a number of very interesting submissions that demonstrate how you can put the power of live streaming into consumers' hands,” said Barry Owen, VP of Engineering at Wowza. “Our teams were impressed by not only the creativity of Spree, but its potential to create an entirely new category of lifestyle applications. The top contest submissions made impressive implementations of VR/360° streaming, live event streaming and mobile journalism.
