Op het voormalig sportcomplex Riekerhaven heeft woonstichting De Key in samenwerking met gemeente Amsterdam en Socius Wonen het Startblok Riekerhaven ontwikkeld. Het Startblok is een woonproject bedoeld voor jonge vluchtelingen die net een verblijfsvergunning hebben gekregen (statushouders) en jongeren uit Nederland. Op deze plek, aan de ring A10 in Amsterdam Nieuw West, wonen zij tijdelijk en bouwen ze samen aan de toekomst.
Een bijzonder woonproject:
Het Startblok bestaat uit 565 wooneenheden, waarvan 463 studio’s en 102 kamers. De eerste bewoners ontvingen op 1 juli 2016 de sleutel van hun woning in het Startblok. De meeste jongerenwoningen zijn zelfstandig met eigen keuken, badkamer en toilet en hebben een woonoppervlakte van ongeveer 23 m2. Daarnaast is er per woongroep een gezamenlijke woonkamer en is er veel buitenruimte met groen!

Het doel van het Startblok is niet alleen het huisvesten van jongeren. Het is vooral het geven van een goede start aan alle bewoners: of het nu jongeren zijn uit Nederland of jongeren die hun eigen land hebben moeten ontvluchten. Het Startblok biedt jongeren uit de buurt, studenten en net afgestudeerden een springplank het ‘echte leven’ in en helpt de bewoner die net in Nederland is aangekomen juist snel de weg te vinden in de Amsterdamse samenleving.
