De firma Steenhaut BVBA werd opgericht in 1970 door Jozef Steenhaut. De toenmalige 2 mans-zaak legde zich hoofzakelijk toe op het onderhoud van privé tuinen in de streek rond Tiegem.
Door een toenemende vraag werd vanaf de jaren 90 eveneens het ontwerp en de aanleg van privé tuinen mee opgenomen.
In 2003 stapte Bart Steenhaut, de huidige zaakvoerder, mee in het bedrijf van zijn vader. Onder impuls van Bart, net afgestudeerd als tuinarchitect, spitste het bedrijf zich eveneens toe op de markt van de openbare aanbestedingen.
Door middel van een doorgedreven inzet op vernieuwing en uitbreiding slaagde het bedrijf erin een gestage groei aan te houden in de daaropvolgende jaren.
In 2015 werd beslist om de site in Tiegem in te ruilen voor nieuwe bedrijfsgebouwen te Deerlijk. Op vandaag telt de firma een 30 tal werknemers actief in zowel de tuinbouw als de omgevingsaanleg.
