LightRec is een gezamenlijk initiatief van meer dan 499 producenten en importeurs van lichtbronnen en verlichtingsarmaturen. De stichting heeft als doel het collectief bevorderen van milieuverantwoorde inzameling en recycling van verlichtingsapparatuur. LightRec besteedt de inzameling en recycling van energiezuinige verlichting uit aan Wecycle. Wecycle werkt actief samen met fabrikanten, detaillisten, installateurs, consumenten en gemeentes om in Nederland gezamenlijk de inzamelingsresultaten verder te verhogen.
Energiezuinige lampen zijn goed voor het milieu. Ze gebruiken minder energie dan traditionele gloeilampen. Bovendien zijn de grondstoffen voor meer dan 90% recyclebaar. Om de milieuwinst van deze lampen verder te vergroten, is het belangrijk dat ze gescheiden worden ingezameld en ingeleverd. Dankzij de landelijke dekking van het inzamelsysteem van Wecycle kunnen oude lampen, waaronder spaarlampen, tl-buizen, ledlampen en professionele armaturen, eenvoudig en kostenefficiënt ingezameld worden voor recycling.
LightRec besteedt jaarlijks veel aandacht aan de voorlichting van consumenten over de voordelen van energiezuinige verlichting en het belang van gescheiden inzameling. Hiervoor ondersteunt de stichting onder meer de (communicatie)activiteiten van Wecycle.
