Brainwave is het vakdispuut voor de neurowetenschappen in Utrecht en sinds 2018 onderdeel van de Utrechtse Psychologievereniging Alcmaeon.
Brainwave is opgericht door niemand minder dan prof. dr. Albert Postma, hoogleraar psychologische functieleer aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Volgens Albert Postma ontbrak er een vereniging die zich focuste op de neurowetenschappen. Zo werd USNW Brainwave geboren. In de eerste jaren organiseerde Abert alles zelf, maar langzaam namen studenten de taken over. Na een wat minder actieve periode werden er vanaf 2009 officieel besturen aangesteld. In de afgelopen jaren is de professionaliteit, bekendheid en grootte vlot naar een hoger niveau getild. In 2018 werd Brainwave onderleiding van het 8e bestuur het eerste officiële vakdispuut van U.P.V. Alcmaeon.
Tegenwoordig is Brainwave uitgegroeid tot een vereniging met ruim 800 leden en daar komen er elk jaar meer bij. Maandelijks worden er lezingen, excursies en andere activiteiten georganiseerd waarmee we studenten extra verdieping en verbreding bieden naast hun studie. Ook houdt Brainwave zich bezig met carrièremogelijkheden, zodat studenten de kans krijgen zich te onderscheiden van anderen.
