Studio Slow is a creative non-profit social enterprise, a cultural think tank and a curatorial laboratory based in Zurich (Switzerland) and Cali (Colombia). It is also an online/offline platform for the promotion and showcase of contemporary craft and collectible design, with a focus on textile and fiber art, ceramics and metalsmithing. The fundamental pillars of Studio Slow are framed in three lines of work and research: i) identity, heritage and memory (preservation and dissemination of skills, traditions and artifacts of ancestral local artisanal communities, and of the heritage associated with craft trades); ii) inclusive markets and sustainable economic development (fair/ethical/responsible trade); and, iii) women and ecology/environment (ecofeminism). To preserve and disseminate craft skills, traditions and artifacts, Studio Slow fosters dialogue and an intergenerational and intercultural exchange in Switzerland, Colombia and third countries —through a traveling curatorial program, pop-up exhibitions, socio-cultural studies and research, publications, events and lectures. Highlighting the visibility of contemporary craft and design, Studio Slow promotes works by emerging and established artists, designers and/or architects whose practice incorporates master craftsmanship. To develop and implement ways to empower craftsmen, it works closely with a range of stakeholders, including NGOs, cultural and academic institutions —public and private, as well as businesses. The project’s mission is aligned with, and committed to, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular gender equality, reduction of inequalities, decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and non-poverty.
