The Syn4Cem project, an *ERC Advanced Grant, is an ongoing research initiative that uses synchrotron X-rays to study the hydration of low-carbon cement materials. The project aims to improve our understanding of how these cements hydrate, which is crucial for developing more sustainable building materials Project Goal: The project focuses on understanding the hydration process of low-carbon cements using synchrotron X-ray imaging. This research aims to improve the performance of these cements for more sustainable construction. Research Focus: Syn4Cem explores key aspects of cement hydration, including: Quantifying etch-pit growth rates as a function of particle size. Investigating mass transport in the confined spaces within the cement. Analyzing the evolution of water/air porosity during hydration. *This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC-AdG) under the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme [grant agreement No. 101139298, “Imaging the hydration of low-carbon CEMents with SYNchrotron X-rays (syn4cem)]”, 2025/01-2029/12.
