Take Me Home Projects was formed in 2013 as a response to the London Fashion and Food worlds’ embracement of Pop-Up culture. For us, the dynamism of this movement typified the rough-and-ready, ever-changing arts scene in the capital; therefore we were baffled as to why so many of the mainstream galleries and art companies hadn’t latched onto this trend. There was no reactive shift from the fixed, white cube space, which muted as opposed to conversed with the art works displayed in it; there was no incentive to take art out of the expected, imaginatively stale set spaces; no drive to rehouse it in dynamic, kooky, temporary locations which spoke to the works themselves and accentuated their being through curation. The gallery space maintained its distance from the artist and, in doing so, distanced itself from its audience, making exhibitions stagnant, repetitive and – with the ever-increasing expense of finding a fixed location to live, work and play in – narrowly elitist.
TMH Projects’ aims to take art back from this monotony, working closely with our artists to bring out the best in their pieces, not only technically but also through space choice and curation, as well as establishment of inter-artistic relations and mutual respect.
As a collaborative, we strive to uphold diversity, equality and fairness. We work a lot with the London LGBTQ community, exploring ties between it and the Contemporary Art world. TMH’s Projects’ biggest event every year is our London Gay Pride Exhibition, which raises money for London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard. We hope to continue this association and be able to stand with many more likeminded groups against gender, race, and sexuality inequality in the near future.
