Founded in 2011, TechCred is a San Francisco, Bay Area nonprofit dedicated to teaching programming to underserved youth. The curriculum and activities are designed to take a student with basic computer skills and teach them the foundation of computer programming through visual block coding. Computer games are built using Scratch and Android Application are created through MIT APP Inventor, originally created by Google. An interactive hands-on and collaborative program that fosters relationships among peers and mentoring support to not only keep kids engaged but encourage them to engage outside of school and ultimately seek an education and career in Computer Science. The students participate in “A day in College”, a field trip to local colleges to explore the engineering departments, programs, and meet staff members.
Due to a lack of funding in 2013 TechCred halted its operation.
