Opgericht in 1871, is Tesselschade is de oudste, eerste vrouwenvereniging van Nederland. Wij ondersteunen vrouwen door het geven van financiële bijdrage aan vrouwen die een opleiding willen volgen en daarmee financieel onafhankelijk willen worden.
De benodigde fondsen worden gegeneerd uit contributies, donaties en de verkoop van handwerkproducten.
Vanaf 1871 verkoopt Tesselschade naald- en breiwerkproducten. De opbrengst van de verkoop viel in het verleden toe aan de handwerksters die daardoor in hun eigen onderhoud konden voorzien. Tegenwoordig worden nog steeds handwerksters financieel ondersteund.Het behouden van oude handwerktechnieken en het stimuleren van handwerken is nog steeds een belangrijke nevendoelstelling.
Tesselschade is opgebouwd uit regionale afdelingen en wordt volledig door vrijwilligers bestuurd.
