During the general workday there are many intervals of “empty time”; commuting on public transport, waiting for emails and calls. Many people use this time reading, listening to music or scrolling through social media, however there could be more enjoyable, productive, and healthier ways to pass the time. Keeping the brain active by processing new knowledge and stimulating thought has been suggested to prevent the onset of degenerative diseases such as dementia and Alzheimers disease.
Curiou is a platform and community focused on communicating engaging, trustworthy and accessible current scientific research, in a short, comprehensible way. We aim to include content from individuals researching a vast array of disciplines, from students to professors, who can share their expertise via a short video or podcast, or a poster/blog. Our content will be of a premium standard, whether primary research or secondary review, however crucially, is presented in a way that is more engaging and understandable for the general public.
This is a critical time to assess the communication of research in general, especially science - in the recent light of fake news scandals, and of course, the misinformation spreading regarding coronavirus. Once we have a community up and running, we aim to expand to other disciplines besides science, and build a multi-disciplinary network which can discuss issues surrounding information communication itself, and to satisfy humanity’s persisting curiosity about the world.
