The Pitch UCT, a student-run organisation founded in 2016 by Frank Karigambe. The Pitch UCT has assisted numerous budding entrepreneurs in realising their aspirations. The Pitch UCT contributes and benefits from being part of the UCT and broader Cape town and South Africa entrepreneurship ecosystem. As implied by the name, the Pitch offers registered University of Cape Town students the chance to present their start-up businesses or business concepts. This initiative is led by the Academic Representatives Council (ARC), supported by the Department of Student Affairs in partnership with the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at the university. Over the course of the year, applicants go through a series of workshops that are conducted by some of our major stakeholders including the Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking (d-school) at UCT, the university's Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) as well as the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation (AGOF). Due to the fact that semi-finals and finalists go on to compete in greater entrepreneurship contests, the caliber of candidates produced by the Pitch is unmatched and ultimately what we strive for. Only enrolled UCT students may enter this competition, which offers a chance to receive seed funding up to R25 000.
