the7dayringproject is a Vancouver-based social enterprise that works to champion and fund girls’ education in Ethiopia by selling handmade silver rings from Ethiopia. We believe that education is a key ingredient in breaking the cycle of poverty seen around the world today.
We recognize the added gender barrier that we as women often face when considering accessibility to education and leadership opportunities. Salem Kassahun, a local entrepreneur in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is one woman who recognizes this barrier and works tirelessly to break it down through her own business of creating and selling jewelry, such as the7dayring, and other items. She and her husband have hired and trained multiple others within their community, have started a mentorship program for over 150 children, and have sponsored the schooling of a girl who has since gone on to become one of the top students in Addis. In order to partner with her in widening this accessibility, we sell the7dayring online and in four stores across British Columbia.
the7dayring is made of 7 individual rings held together by a small band. The ring serves as a reminder to seize every day, no matter where you are and what that means for you. We pay Salem full price for the production and distribution of the rings, and then donate the remaining proceeds of every ring to an organization called HOPE International Development Agency, a nonprofit based in Vancouver, BC that works in many countries, as well as focuses on making a sustainable impact on Ethiopian education and communities.
