Le Théâtre Petit Champlain fait partie de la toile culturelle de la ville de Québec depuis un bon moment déjà. Dès son ouverture du milieu du XIXe siècle, le Théâtre Champlain revêt une vocation axée sur le théâtre. Ce n’est qu’en 1988 qu’Ulric Breton s’associe à divers partenaire afin de faire de ce lieu historique une corporation à but non lucratif.
Ce lieu unique, de par son cachet et sa situation géographique, bénéficiera d’importants travaux de renouvellement et d’agrandissement autour d’un concept qui s’oriente vers la chanson. Le 18 octobre 1994, la première Maison de la Chanson francophone naît.
À ce jour, le Théâtre Petit Champlain offre une programmation très diversifiée, présentant des artistes de renommée internationale et de nombreux artistes locaux. Sa vocation autrefois orientée vers le théâtre et plus tard la chanson est aujourd’hui beaucoup plus diversifiée et pique la curiosité des nombreux spectateurs qui passent par le Théâtre Petit Champlain.
