It is imperative that we support youth in schools so that they can feel connected, supported, and safe instead of worried, stressed, angry, and burdened. We believe our program can succeed at this because we have providers who have lived experiences where they had to grow and continue to grow through various forms of trauma. It is important that the youth being served and supported can see themselves reflected in their providers, so that they genuinely feel understood and may grow to believe “hey if you did it, maybe I can too.” Having an adult in your life, even one, who really listens, validates, and understands what you are going through and growing through, has the capacity to impact a youth’s journey in a positive way. Having providers that have and are going through trauma, models to the youth that it is okay to talk about that trauma they may have or are living through. Our goal is to follow the students we work with through the school year so we can build a steady and trusting relationship that can be carried on as they leave the program and graduate.
