A non profit organisation established to raise funding for solutions which will enable the wildlife and humans living with Uganda's National Parks to co exist in harmony. Everyone knows about the plight of the Mountain Gorillas, the indigenous people were moved out of the forest and communities were taught the importance and the benefits of protecting them - happily the number of Mountain Gorillas is on the increase!! What people don't hear about is the decline of other animal species within the National Parks, due to - in the main - the conflict between humans and wildlife. Whilst visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda in June 2022, I was shocked to not see Rhinos, Zebra, Giraffe and the only way we were able to see Lions and a single leopard was by going out with a tracker to track the radio / satelite collars. Our guide Eric told me that when he was a boy you could hear the Lion's roars coming from the parks all night..... today sadly you will not hear it at all...... My first objective with this charity is to let the Lions Roar once again in QE Park. The issue is due to the fact that there are a number of communities (villages) that reside within the parks themselves; These people live in poverty and their greatest possessions are cattle or goats. Now given that us humans closed the corridor on Zebra and Giraffe back into the Park many years ago - a cow or Goat makes a very convenient Kill for a Lion or Leopard. The loss of a cow or goat for a community member is felt greatly and as a result some individuals will lay poison in retaliation - one man killed 15 lions in one day as pay back for a lion taking his cow. Although the numbers have declined rapidly, there is still hope for recovery - a tangible way we can help is to equip the communities with a Light System for their Bomas . These light systems are solar powered and come on at dusk, very simple lights that flash around the border - keeps the predators away and cost just £250.
