Toldot Barcelona is a young project dedicated to investigating and sharing the unique Jewish history of Barcelona and Catalonia. Branching from Cultural Jewish platform Mozaika (mozaika.es), Toldot has been providing Jewish tours, both medieval and contemporary 20th century history, and Jewish food experiences since 2016.
We pride ourselves on our rigor, passion and unique experiences. We have exclusive access to two important Jewish cultural spaces; the historic Casa Adret and an exhibition of Jewish documents in the archive of the Cathedral of Barcelona. Casa Adret was a Jewish owned home up until 1391 and contains archaeological remains dating to the XII century, including 2 stones that once held mezuzot- a rarity in Barcelona. Nowadays, Casa Adret acts as a cultural space where different projects dedicated to Jewish culture and heritage converge.
Fruit of a recent collaboration with the Cathedral of Barcelona and Mozaika, the Archive Tour has privileged access to a small exhibition of medieval documents relating to Barcelona’s Jewish community found in the Cathedral’s archive. This tour takes you to a XV century archive in an area of the Cathedral closed to the general public and shows a collection of documents that are being displayed for the first time in history.
We are committed to investigation, dedicated to education and want to share this incredible story of the Catalan Jews with both locals and travellers alike.
