Headquartered at Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, TRaCE McGill aims: 1) to produce a detailed statistical picture of career outcomes for all McGill PhD graduates (the graduating cohorts from 2008 to 2018) 2) to tell the stories of the education and career pathways of the PhD graduates 3) to help build a PhD community inside and outside the University. TRaCE McGill’s integration of statistical data, narrative knowledge, and community building is unique in the world among PhD tracking projects. TRaCE McGill tracked 5000+ PhD graduates in 2019 and reported on the sectors they're working in, the type of work they do, where they work, and how relevant they find their PhDs to the work they are currently doing (full report available at www.tracemcgill.com/report) TRaCE McGill has conducted over 100 interviews so far with PhD graduates. Our graduate student researchers ask them what ignited their passion for their fields of research, what experiences they valued post, what challenges they faced, how they found their way to their current positions, and what they might tell themselves if they had the chance to do it all over again. New interview narratives are published every Thursday at www.tracemcgill.com Starting in Fall 2020, TRaCE McGill will host events that offer new opportunities to connect and exchange knowledge.
