The Train Drivers Academy (TDA) became the RDG scheme in April 2019. It is an industry scheme centered around improving the management of recruitment and training for train driver community. The TDA is not a physical establishment but rather a cloud-based and virtual centre for train driver training. It is governed by a board of HR directors and Operational directors who meet every quarter to provide direction to the TDA.
The Train Drivers Academy team provides support for its scheme members by;
a. Enrolling and managing the ongoing configuration and development of a host learning management system
b. Providing support for the creation of company bespoke training for all areas related to train driver training programmes
c. Advising on and creating optimum methods for carrying out online assessment
d. Resourcing a bespoke TDA helpdesk to respond promptly to member queries
e. Helping members implement and deliver longer-term train driver training strategies.
The TDA (LMS) Learning Management System, Core Content and Media:
The TDA team supports members to onoboard into the TDA LMS through transfering all their course material into the LMS and schedule and manage their Part A and Part B training efficiently at a one-stop platform. It also allows for companies to run online exams which cuts the trainer workload by half. The LMS is further working on piloting a widget that will allow the trainees and trainers to record their driving hours to support the Part B training.
Additionally, the TDA LMS is home to the complete suite of core materials and media that aligns to both the requirements of the UKTDLCR 2010, Schedule 3 and the Level 3 Train Driver Apprenticeship standard thus allowing for a standardized approach to content delivery throughout the industry and is regularly updated in alignment to rule book changes.
