Tress Obsessed was founded in 2019 by Maxine Pittman—a global jetsetter, beauty industry disruptor, and passionate advocate for textured hair care. What began as an idea for a 24-hour beauty supply store in Los Angeles quickly transformed into something far more innovative, powerful, and needed. At the time, Maxine simply wanted to shake up the beauty scene in LA. She saw a gap—an opportunity to serve women of color with something different. But when the pandemic struck in 2020, everything changed. Businesses shuttered. Dreams paused. Brick-and-mortar locations that once thrived were suddenly burdensome. Watching friends lose their livelihoods sparked a new vision: flexibility, freedom, and forward-thinking beauty retail. So Maxine pivoted. She asked a bold question: What if you could get the beauty brands you love—wherever you are in the world? After years of global travel—checking into hotels and resorts from Central America to the Middle East—Maxine noticed something glaring: those tiny complimentary hotel toiletries? Useless for curly, kinky, coily hair like hers. And like so many other women of color, she found herself stuffing her own trusted products into travel bags, wishing there was an easier way. That moment was the spark. The solution? High-quality, travel-size haircare essentials—served up in pretty (pink) vending machines! Launched from her apartment in Southern California, Maxine married her love of vending machine culture with her obsession for curls, coils, and community. Tress Obsessed reimagines the beauty supply experience by placing trusted, textured-hair-approved brands into smart vending machines located in airports, campuses, and places where curly girls are on the go. We believe beauty shouldn't stop just because you're in motion. We believe travel-sized should still mean effective for textured hair.
