National Meteorological and Hydrological Services - the Members of theWorld Meteorological Organization- are monitoring temperatures and issuing timely forecasts and warnings to save lives and livelihoods. 🌡️ Türkiye set a new national temperature record of 50.5°C in Silope (in the south-east) on 26 July. 🌡️ Cyprus set a new July temperature record of 44.6°C. 🌡️ Greece and other Mediterranean countries are also suffering intense heat, as are Balkan countries - with a number of new station temperature records. Further North, Scandinavia is also impacted. 🌡️ Finland has experienced more than 15 consecutive days of temperatures above 30°C. 🌡️ Temperatures are also unusually high in Norway and Sweden. 🔥 High temperatures and dry soils fuel the risk of wildfires - as we have seen with devastating and tragic effect in recent days.
