1970 gründeten elf Verlage die Uni-Taschenbücher GmbH. Über 6.000 Titel wurden seither veröffentlicht. Aktuell sind ca. 2.000 Titel gedruckt und digital lieferbar, darunter Lehrbuch-Klassiker, die seit Beginn im Programm sind.
2009 startete utb als einer der ersten Lehrbuchverlage eine E-Book-Plattform. Heute vereint die utb elibrary die Angebote utb-studi-e-book (das „rote“ utb-Lehrbuchprogramm) und scholars-e-library (wissenschaftliche Fachliteratur von 50 Verlagen). Die Plattform bietet mit über 25.000 E-Books und E-Journals ein breites Portfolio für Wissenschaft, Lehre und Studium. Über 400 Hochschulbibliotheken und Institute haben die Angebote der utb elibrary bereits lizenziert.
