Urinary incontinence results in chronic involuntary leakage. It affects one woman in three at some point of her life, and the risk increases with aging, childbirth, and overweight. It causes a very negative impact on daily living and quality of life, generating low self-esteem, isolation, depression, and sexual dysfunction. It is commonly the result of weak pelvic floor muscles (PFM) and the standard of care is 12 weeks of physiotherapist training, but is inconvenient and time-consuming. Its efficacy is related to adherence and therapist supervision, but performing the contractions properly is demanding and difficult, so many patients eventually give up or do it wrong.
WOMENUP is a digital therapeutics solution for self-management of female urinary incontinence at home with therapist supervision. It consists of a biofeedback vaginal probe that allows the patient to train her pelvic floor while playing serious games on a mobile app, and monitored by her therapist with a telemedicine platform. The patented and certified solution is clinically validated with a multi-centric European clinical trial of 263 patients, that ensures pelvic floor training efficacy and adherence, while reducing time and costs for the health system.
