Different countries tend to be in different geographical locations, so we've placed 2 high-quality video-conferencing stations, at a restaurant in each country, creating an illusion of a single dining table. We gave free appetizers to people who agreed to dine with strangers from another land. It was awesome, I'd say the best encounter was when a little boy that was in Tel Aviv asked his father in Berlin – “Dad, what are you doing *here*?” -------------------------------------------------------------- How far did we get? - Coded our own HD "Skype" using Goggle’s amazing Web-RTC technology. - Ran a 6 months pilot, with 2 operating video-conferencing stations in 2 restaurants – one in Berlin, and one in Tel Aviv. - Teamed up with several Israeli celebrities which promoted our restaurants for future revenues. - Raised ~28,500 USD from fellow hi-tech workers. - Created an average monthly income of ~400 USD per station. -------------------------------------------------------------- What stopped us? Technical difficulties during the pilot led us to use hardware that was ~4 times more expansive than we had anticipated in our early experiments – which “broke” our financial model. We stopped believing it could be a profitable project.
