CUSTOZA: THE ART OF BLENDING Custoza is the white wine from the hills between Verona and Lake Garda, produced in only 9 municipalities in the province of Verona (Sommacampagna - Sona - Valeggio sul Mincio - Lazise - Pastrengo - Castelnuovo - Peschiera del Garda - Bussolengo - Villafranca di Verona). The vine has been cultivated in the Custoza area as early as since the Palaeolithic period, but it is in the Middle Ages that extensive vine cultivation really flourished in the area. Vines and wine are part of the DNA of this territory and its producers. The appellation, recognised in 1971, was not invented out of thin air, yet it 'ratified' the real ampelographic situation of the area. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate thanks to the effects produced by Lake Garda, but with continental climatic variables due to the effects of the plains. The combination of the morainic amphitheater with its rolling hills, the loose soils rich in gravel, pebbles, sand and rock fragments formed by the retreat of glaciers create a composite terrain that is ideal for natural drainage and gives our wine wonderful savory notes. A blend of autochthonous grapes, Custoza must be made from at least 70% of at least 3 of these grapes: Garganega, Bianca Fernanda (a local clone of Cortese) , Trebbianello (a biotype of Tocai friulano),Trebbiano Toscano. Blending is the strength of Custoza, as it guarantees territorial identity in every vintage, thanks to a contemporary style and respect for terroir. A DESTINATION TO BE LIVED ALL YEAR LONG The Consortium's wineries, run by a growing group of enthusiastic and passionate young producers, are all open to wine tourism and Rural Tourism: in addition to the traditional tastings, with which they involve guests in discovering the wines of the area, they surprise with picnics, vineyard tastings, yoga lessons, art sessions and sensory experiences.
